Kim Nam-gil rumored to add one last film before enlistment

Share

Having come into overwhelming mainstream popularity just as his mandatory military service approaches,

Kim Nam-gil is trying to squeeze in as much work as he can before he has to take his acting hiatus. In addition to an upcoming drama series (SBS’s Bad Guy), rumors are currently swirling that Kim will also take on a mystery film project this year, to be directed by a top director.

While speculation about casting is common, in this case the film’s supporting actors and cast are corroborating that Kim’s casting is a fait accompli. It’s Kim’s side that is playing coy in denying the rumors; his management rep said, “He has a lot of inquiries coming in, but as of now nothing has been decided. He is focusing on his drama.”

Kim is busy working on Bad Guy, which is shooting in Jeju Island. Furthermore, as he has already once delayed his enlistment, it’s likely he will be enlisting as soon as Bad Guy wraps. While technically he could film both at the same time (as Lee Yo-won did in the latter days of Queen Seon-deok), that’s a demanding, if not impossible, proposition — particularly since drama shooting schedules are so grueling to begin with.

Despite his packed schedule, fans are clamoring for one last project, eager to see as much of Kim as they can before he leaves the spotlight for two years. It’s always tough to leave at the height of one’s fame, but it also makes one’s return that much more anticipated, particularly if Bad Guy turns out to be a strong project.
