FHM cover girl Bela Padilla: "I'm gonna have my own moment, but it's not here yet."

NOT YET HER PEAK.
"I can honestly say na I haven't reached my peak yet, this is not my peak yet.
"I'm climbing up pa lang.
"So, mas aabangan siguro nila 'yong talagang 'pag moment ko na... hindi ko pa feel na moment ko na ngayon.
"I'm gonna have my own moment, but it's not here yet," saad ng 21-year-old Kapuso talent.

SEXY BELA.

Paliwanag ni Bela, "I backed out the last minute because I wasn't ready yet.
"I don't want to give people half-big performances.
"So, it's unfair to FHM kasi they'll gonna spend a lot, 'tapos mukha kang hindi ready, di ba?
"So, I wanted to give them a performance na they'll remember—and I think I've achieved that naman."

Grace Lee on rumored date with PNoy: No Comment

Share

Radio DJ Grace Lee refused to comment on reports that she went on a date with President Benigno Aquino III Wednesday night.

“The president really has my highest respect so I think it’s better if I leave the president to speak of the matter,” she said in GMA News TV’s noon-time news program “Balitanghali” on Friday, January 27.

The news that the two dated last Wednesday, January 25, came from fellow radio DJ Mo Twister.

“We are talking about Grace Lee's date last night with President Aquino. #itsmorefuninthephilippines,” Mo tweeted Thursday morning.

The Korean TV personality also asked the public not to immediately believe reports about the rumored date.

“Wag muna kayo maniwala sa lahat ng nababasa ninyo, lalo na’t ang article na yun, ang sinasabi si Grace Lee ang nagsabi. Because wala pa akong nirerelease na statement and I’ve never spoken of him,” she said.

The two first met June of last year at the inauguration of the Korea Electric Power Corp. power plant in Cebu.

Former “Pinoy Big Brother” housemate and Star Magic artist Ivan Dorschner, 21, finally fulfilled his “teenage dream”. He got a kiss from international pop singer Katy Perry during her concert at the Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay City on Sunday night, January 22.

Ivan was one of the thousands of hopefuls who wanted Katy to kiss him as part of her act in her “California Dreams” tour. Manila was the last leg of the tour, which started in February 2011 with over a hundred shows in Europe, Australia and America.

The Kiss

Katy announced on stage that whoever takes his shirt off first can come on stage. Many of her Filipino fans frantically took off their shirt but it was Ivan who ended up the luckiest.

Katy not only kissed him. He kissed her back.

“I wanna make your dreams come true because I’m sure you haven’t kissed a pop star yet, have you?,” Katy playfully asked Ivan. She shouted, “Thank you, God!” when Ivan kissed her.

Going viral

The kiss went viral and Ivan trended on Twitter on Monday, January 23.

The kiss even made news on “The Daily Mail” website in UK.

The headline read, “Is she trying to make Russell jealous? Katy Perry kisses ANOTHER man onstage as she continues her Asian tour.”

The news also says that while Katy was enjoying her Manila concert, her estranged husband was spotted at a club in Los Angeles.

“While the flirtatious act appears to be part of her stage show, Katy was clearly enjoying herself. Several miles across the ocean, her estranged husband was spotted at The Lexington Social House in Los Angeles with two male friends,” the news said.

Meanwhile, through her Twitter account, Katy defended her actions and explained why she “kissed a boy.”

“Btw, I have *kissed* 1 boy, picked randomly out of the audience, on the cheek as a part of my show for all 125 tour dates. Simmer down now,” she tweeted on Monday, January 23.

Valerie Bariou - Bondoc as Rachel Weisz Stand-in

Rachel Weisz is British. Valerie Bariou has French blood. But they share striking similarities.

Both have high cheekbones. Both have an elegance that makes you look not once, but twice. Both started as a model before turning to acting.

No wonder producers of “Bourne Legacy” chose Valerie as stand-in for Rachel in the ongoing shoot of the hit franchise in the Philippines.

“People said that we look alike,” Valerie's text message to Yahoo! Philippines OMG! reads. “The built, the skin tone, etc., are similar.”

This is why she auditioned as a stand-in for Rachel.

“We are not seen on cam. It’s similar to being a double. Basically, I stand for her for lighting and framing,” Valerie explains her work.

And since Rachel and the other stars need full concentration to get into their character, Valerie says that “we don’t want to disturb them as much as possible.”

The Hollywood stars, she observes, are very professional and time conscious. And it’s great to be part of the film.

“I get to see how they work – the Hollywood standards. We talk with the crew about their other experiences in their films like ‘300,’ ‘Titanic,’ ‘Avengers,’ ‘Spiderman,’ etc. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Valerie relates.

Husband Onemig Bondoc is happy for her.

He has thrown in his full support “as long as I always prioritize our family and I update him once in a while during the shoot, ” states Valerie.

The proud wife adds that Onemig guests on radio – via 738 khz AM at 7 a.m. twice a week.

Valerie's acting credits include a role in "The Red Shoes," where she plays Olivia (wife of Marvin's bestfriend). She was also the glam secretary in "I Love You Virus" with Jericho Rosales and Briana Evigan and "Skeika" in Chito Rono's film "Emir."

Mike Tan has no plans of settling down yet despite six-year relationship with non-showbiz girlfriend

Share

Via pep.ph

MIKE'S NEW YEAR.

David Archuleta agrees that Pinoys make visits of guests to the Philippines "comfortable"

Prior to accepting TV5's offer to headline the network's newest soap opera, American Idol alumnus and season seven runner-up David Archuleta had visited the Philippines three times.

These visits were very brief, less than 24 hours each, only enough to do concerts, or to promote his albums.

But those short stays were more than enough for the young singer to experience what the country offers.

He readily admits that, from these visits, it's really more fun in the Philippines.

In an interview by PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last week, David did not hesitate to relate the reasons why he thinks the Philippines is more fun.

For one, he says, the fans are warmer here than anywhere else.

"I feel very comfortable with just the people," says the 21-year-old
matinee idol. "I feel that fans are very warm here. That's why I feel
that it would be a comfortable experience here."

He adds, "For me, the number one thing about any place is people.
That's what interests me, and what I remember the most anywhere I go.

"Especially here, I feel comfortable here, the people here are very
friendly, and they're very supportive as well.

"I could safely say that I always have a blast when I come to the
Philippines, so it's always fun to me when I come to the Philippines."

Asked to name Filipino things that excite him whenever he's in the country, David was quick to mention the food, the tourist spots, and the unforgettable experiences.

The food that David pleasantly remembers and has tasted in his past visits are tokwa't baboy, sisig, and papaitan.

"They're all good," he says with delight.

During his short stint, this time, in the country, David hopes to visit the best tourist spots, but he's concerned that he just won't have the time.

Pacquiao won't lose sleep if Floyd says 'No' (Pacquiao-Mayweather UPDATE)

Share

Via Yahoo.com / Philstar.com
By: Abac Cordero

Manny Pacquiao is not losing sleep over Floyd Mayweather Jr. rejecting his offer of a 50-50 split of the fight purse.

“Okay lang. May iba pa namang fights (It’s okay. There are other fights),” said Pacquiao, who had hoped for a positive response from Mayweather.

Pacquiao said a couple of nights ago Mayweather called him on the phone, and they discussed the possibility of staging the superfight in May or June.

During their two-minute conversation, which must have felt like an hour for both fighters, Pacquiao told Mayweather they should do the fight under a 50-50 basis.
“Sana matuloy na nga (I hope it pushes through),” he told The STAR.

But the undefeated American, who will go to jail in June regardless of whom he fights next, has reportedly thumbed down Pacquiao’s golden offer.

Many think it’s the best way to do the fight, with both superstars getting just as much as the other – fair and square.

Mayweather, however, has other things in mind. He thinks he’s better than Pacquiao, and deserves more than the Filipino champion in eight weight classes.

“He asked about a 50/50 split and I told him no, that can’t happen,” Sportscenter quoted Mayweather as saying.
Mayweather must have made up his mind that if he doesn’t get more than Pacquiao, then he’d fight someone else, for a much, much lesser price.

“But what can happen is you (Pacquiao) can make more money fighting me than you have made in your career,” Mayweather apparently told Pacquiao over the phone.
“I also let him know I’m in control on my side but he needs to get on the same page as his promoter so we can make this fight happen,” Sportscenter also wrote.

Pacquiao wouldn’t budge either. He said 50-50 is it, nothing more, nothing less. Or he fights someone else as well.

“I’ve chosen my next opponent,” said Pacquiao.
And the name of that chosen one will soon be announced by Bob Arum once the legendary promoter finally gives up on the Mayweather fight.

It could be Miguel Cotto up next for Pacquiao even if Juan Manuel Marquez, Tim Bradley and Lamont Peterson are in the mix or used to be in the mix.

If Pacquiao takes on Cotto on June 9, the eve of the Puerto Rico Day parade, Arum said it may take place at the Thomas and Mack Center or the MGM.

Arum had said Pacquiao vs Mayweather can happen late in May or June 9 in Las Vegas. Otherwise, both fighters have to move on, and hope they end up doing the fight in November.
Arum is sick and tired of people saying he’s the one who doesn’t want the fight to happen.

“I’m not stopping any fight. This is all for public relations, it’s nonsense. Arum’s blocking the fight and so on, it’s just ridiculous. What’s going on is not rational,” Arum told boxing scribe Michael Marley .

“This is not the normal way you put together a big fight. The normal way would be for us to sit down somewhere. Mayweather said he won’t agree to a 50-50 split with Manny. Now that’s something blocking the fight, something we won’t agree to,” the Top Rank chief added.

Phoem Baranda, Iza Calzado recall recent dinner with 'Bourne' cast

Not a few Pinoys are eager to rub shoulders with Hollywood stars Jeremy Renner and Rachel Weisz. This is evident in the numerous footage shown in the news with more than a handful kibitzers crashing the set of “Bourne Legacy” in Malate the past couple of days.

But when most were allowed only a glimpse of the celluloid heroes at work, there are a lucky few who were able to actually share a conversation with the duo, this, including, model-TV host Phoemela Barranda and actress Iza Calzado.

Barranda revealed that she was among those invited to have dinner with both Renner and Weisz, which came courtesy of good friend, Cristalle Belo – product development and marketing head of Belo Essentials.

According to Baranda, the dinner was held at Filipino resto, Abe, in consideration to the stars supposedly preferring to taste more of the local cuisine.

Baranda was surprised that both aren’t cutting on their diet, just digging into their rice with gusto. And both, she said, enjoyed most of the food served including “binukadkad na tilapia, adobo and gising-gising.”

Among other things, Renner and Weisz were enthusiastic to know about places that they could visit while they’re in the country, said Barranda.

“Hanggang Feb pa sila rito so gusto nila malaman kung ano pa ang magandang puntahan sa Pilipinas,” Barranda said. “Si Jeremy came from Boracay na and si Rachel naman gusto ding mag-Boracay.”

Both Hollywood stars are enjoying their stay here, added Barranda.

In a separate report on GMA News, Calzado said she was “starstruck” upon meeting Renner and Weisz.

“I was honored to be in their presence. I was just in awe,” she recalled.

Meanwhile, shooting for the international film continues today in Remedios Circle, Malate. The place was cordoned off near dawn with several officers of the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) deployed to control anticipated traffic in the area as early as 5 a. m.

Nearby Bocobo Street will be closed to traffic until tomorrow as well, says a GMA report.

Eugene Domingo, 'Ang Babae sa Septic Tank' get AFA noms

By JULIEN MERCED C. MATABUENA

The 7th Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival big winner, “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank,” bagged two nominations in the 6th Asian Film Awards via lead actress Eugene Domingo and screenwriter Chris Martinez.

According to the award-giving body’s official website, Domingo will be pitted against Vidya Balan of India, Michelle Chen of Taiwan, Leila Hatami of Iran, and Deanie Ip of Hong Kong under the Best Actress category.

In July last year, Domingo was hailed Best Actress in Cinemalaya’s New Breed (Full Length) category for said movie. In December, she took home the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Supporting Actress trophy for her performance in “My Househusband.” The comedienne had also won numerous supporting actress awards for the films “100,” “Here Comes the Bride,” and the “Ang Tanging Ina” series from the Cinemalaya, the FAMAS, and the MMFF, respectively.

Apart from her eccentric portrayal of herself in “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank,” Domingo may also be remembered for her roles as Rowena, the best friend of Ai Ai delas Alas’ character in the “Ang Tanging Ina” series; the twins Kimmy and Dora in “Kimmy Dora: Kambal sa Kiyeme”; and the filthy rich woman Precy in “Here Comes the Bride.”

On the other hand, Martinez will be up against Iran’s Asghar Farhadi for “Nader and Simin, A Separation,” Japan’s Kaneto Shindô for “Postcard,” Mainland China’s Heng Liu and Geling Yan for “The Flowers of War,” and Hong Kong’s Alan Mak and Felix Chong for “Overheard 2” under the Best Screenwriter category.

More, PEP reported on Jan. 17 that Domingo was also tapped to be a presenter at the awards ceremony to be held on Mar. 19 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The Marlon Rivera-helmed “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank,” a comedy flick that endearingly poked fun at independent filmmaking, premiered at last year’s Cinemalaya film fest under the New Breed (Full Length) category. There, it bagged the Balanghay trophies for Best Actress, Best Screenplay, Best Director, Best Film and the Audience Choice Award.

More, the film is currently among the 63 films shortlisted for the final nominees in the 84th Academy Awards’ Best Foreign Language Film category. The final list of nominees in all categories will be announced on Jan. 24, with the awards night to be held on Feb. 26 at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood.

Meanwhile, director Loy Arcena’s “Niño” also got an AFA nomination under the Best Supporting Actress category for Sharmaine Buencamino. The multi-awarded Cinemalaya film about a once-illustrious Filipino family and greed gained international recognition after it won the New Currents award at the 16th Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) held in October.

“Niño” was in the same Cinemalaya category as “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank.”

Chicosci, other local singers take trip down memory lane

Filipino artists took a trip down memory lane in a two-day concert titled, “90s Music Comes Alive.”

Rock bands Chicosci, Tanya Markova, December Avenue, Typecast and Hijo; pop group 1:43 and solo artists Nyoy Volante, Sabrina, Tricia Garcia and Toto Sorioso headlined the concert for the album launch of “90s Music Comes Alive” under MCA Music, together with Samsung Galaxy S Wifie 5.0.

The two-day concert, attended not only by '90s kids but the younger generation as well, was held at the Eastwood Central plaza on Friday, January 13 and at Venice Piazza at McKinley Hill on Saturday, January 14.

Radiohead, EMF, Paula Cole and Cranberries and other '90s artists returned full force.

December Avenue took the stage with a cover of Paula Cole’s “I Don’t Wanna Wait,” a popular theme song from American TV series “Dawson’s Creek,” while Typecast did a rendition of Keith Sweat’s “Twisted.” Tanya Markova, dressed in their usual flamboyant costumes and white make-up, performed Radiohead’s “Creep.”

Nyoy went acoustic with Indigo Girls’ “Power of Two,” while Toto Sorioso covered Lisa Loeb’s “Stay.”

Owning the stage

Chicosci owned the stage when its frontman Miggy Chavez ordered the fans, even those who were staying outside, to stand in front as they performed EMF’s hit “Unbelievable.”

“We personally chose “Unbelievable” by EMF, it’s not dictated by the label. They gave us few suggestions like Radiohead, pero pinili namin yung masaya,” Miggy said in an interview backstage.

Miggy is a proud '90s kid, having grown up to the music of Nirvana, Deftones and Metallica. This is why he is happy to be part of the album and concert giving tribute to the '90s music.

“I grew up to the '90s music, listening to bands like Nirvana, Deftones, Metallica, mga panahon pa ng tape. Also Red Hot Chilli Peppers,” Miggy shared.

The '90s was also the time when Miggy formed a band with grade school friends and bandmates Mong Alacaraz and Calde Calderon.

“Mga '96 or '97, nagpa-plant na yung seeds ng band. We started playing na nila Mong, Calde, classmates kase kami since grade school eh,” he said.

Miggy then recalls the fashion of the times: “Naka-elephants kami. Sa Ateneo kasi nung high school, wala pa kaming uniform. Malakaking pants, Estussy, Air Walk.”

Maja on relationship with Matteo: We’re taking things slow

Puppy love. That’s how Maja Salvador describes her relationship with Matteo Guidicelli.

“Yung relationship namin parang puppy love, hindi kami nagmamadali. Simple lang yung relasyon namin, hindi pa kami todo bigay sa lahat-lahat,” Maja said at the press conference of “My Cactus Heart” at Dolce Latte in Quezon City on Saturday, January 14.

Maja plays Sandy Makalintal, a girl who is scared of falling in love.

In real life, Maja knows falling love requires her to adjust. She did just that when they started their relationship more than a year ago. Thus, she and Matteo understand each other more.

“Yung umpisa po siguro ng relasyon, kelangan mag-adjust ng bawat isa. Pero ngayon, mas naiintindihan na namin ang bawat isa,” Maja goes on.

The sweethearts hurdled challenges to their relationship last year, including a misunderstanding with Coco Martin and rumors about a split.

Ready for marriage?

Is she ready to become Mrs. Guidicelli?

“Marami pa siyang kailangan patunayan,” Maja replies.

Instead of talking about marriage, Maja and Matteo prefer to discuss short-term plans, such as out-of-the country trips after five years.

“Ang mga plano namin, mga after five years, out of the country, kasi ang gusto ko sana si Matteo na,” she said.

She adds that she and Matteo often go on group dates or with their families, instead of limiting their time to just the two of them. “Yung relationship namin kasi parang barkada na sobrang nagmamahalan. At hindi rin namin minamadali ang lahat. “

Maja thinks time will come when both of them will be ready for marriage.

“Darating din yung araw na yun at sana nga kapag ready na kami pareho ay ganun pa rin kalaki yung pagmamahal namin sa isa't isa,” Maja mused.

Supportive family

She denied rumors that Matteo’s family doesn’t like her.

“Very supportive naman po ang family ni Matteo. Pasok ang beauty ko,” she said, smiling.

Maja adds that their problems as a couple don’t stem from their separate families.

“Kung nagkaproblema po man kami, hindi yun dahil sa family nya or family ko. Feeling ko bawat relasyon, may pinagdadaanan na problema. Pero at least, ang maganda po, naayos namin at hindi kami nagpatalo sa mga negative na lumalabas,” Maja shares.

Ruffa Gutierrez apologizes to Sen. Noynoy Aquino for her mother's outburst

Share

"I am reluctant to make a statement regarding the incident last Sunday to avoid being accused of 'gumigimik' but since I feel the need to defend myself, lest I be judged unfairly, and ayoko na pong palakihin ito so I will say my piece.

"First of all I hold Tito Boy and Kris in such high regard as professional mentors and personal friends.

"Secondly, I wasn't reacting to just the video clip shown wherein Kris remarked 'Ruffa, aminin mo, ibang level ang saya dito.' Hindi naman po ako mababaw at pikon na tao.

"I always conduct myself as a professional to let a supposedly small matter such as this bother me.

"That being said, the reason why I reacted that way, seemingly OA or not, is because aside from being understandably emotional that Sunday (it was my last 2 episodes as co-host of The Buzz), the series of condescending remarks noticed by viewers through the years which I've constantly brushed off in the spirit of 'pakikisama' also took a toll on me.

"I invite you to view replays of past episodes online and you'll understand exactly where I'm coming from. Off-camera, sometimes Kris acknowledges my presence and other times (like that Sunday, March 7) she would not.

"To clarify, I did not 'walk out.' After what I thought was a commercial break, I felt tears were starting to well up. I went back to my dressing room to compose myself. But the tears wouldn't stop.

"Third, my mom [Annabelle Rama] has nothing personal against Senator Noynoy and the Aquino family. She never attacked the good Senator's character. She just expressed what she was feeling at that moment. Just like you and I, my mom has her own perspective and we should respect that. After all, we do live in a democracy.

"Lastly, in the spirit of unity and our long tenure on the Buzz I appreciate and accept Kris' public apology. I will always remember my 3 yrs on the Buzz with great fondness. I will miss everyone dearly.

"To Miss Kris Aquino's family, loved ones and fans worldwide, I would also like to apologize kung nasaktan ang damdamin niyo. Misunderstandings happen among the closest of friends. Ang importante po, nagkakaintindihan na kami.

"To Senator Noynoy Aquino, in behalf of my mom and the entire Gutierrez family, we sincerely apologize kung nasali po kayo sa isang babaeng usapin.

Kris Aquino willing to leave 'The Buzz'

Share

MANILA, Philippines – Actress-host Kris Aquino is willing to take a leave from "The Buzz" if ABS-CBN management tells her to do so.
"Many people can, of course, take my place. And if management does decide it's for the best, then I would gladly abide by kung ano ang sabihin ng ABS-CBN. It’s not like kulang naman ako sa trabaho kasi nag-uumapaw naman kaya maraming salamat," Aquino said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
The “Pilipinas Got Talent” judge is part of television series “Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo.” She also hosts “SNN: Showbiz News Ngayon” alongside Boy Abunda.
Aquino made the statement amid reports that there were already calls for her removal from the show following Ruffa Gutierrez’s controversial walk out.
Gutierrez walked out of the "The Buzz" upon her mom’s prodding. Annabelle Rama said she pulled her daughter out of the live set of "The Buzz" after she became fed up with Aquino’s purported constant interruptions.
On Monday, Aquino apologized to both Gutierrez and Rama.
In her Twitter page, meanwhile, Gutierrez said she is already preparing her official statement.
Gutierrez also made this appeal to all her fans: "STOP TEAM KRIS-TEAM RUFFA! We shud be TEAM LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!:) (sic)."

Dingdong Dantes says no "pamamanhikan" happened on his trip to Spain with Marian Rivera

More than two weeks din nawala sa bansa sina Dingdong Dantes at Marian Rivera.

"Yung sa Doha at Dubai, parehong naging masaya, very successful. Like yung sa Qatar, malaki talaga yung capacity ng place, pero halos napuno siya. So, parang dun ka mapapaisip na napakarami ngang Filipino sa lugar na yun. And I believe na natuwa naman sila. On our part, malaking bagay na napasama kami sa isang concert with Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid. Ang sarap ng feeling to be with these artists, also with Rico J. Puno," sabi ni Dingdong.

ABS-CBN forbids talents from using its resources for electoral campaigns

Celebrities endorsing electoral candidates were given a choice by the Fair Election Act to either take a leave or resign permanently from their TV shows. The Commission on Election (Comelec) announced earlier that it will start implementing this rule by monitoring the media exposure of personalities and celebrities on  TV and radio.

The Fair Election Act or Republic Act 9006 states:

"Any mass media columnist, commentator, announcer, reporter, on-air correspondent or personality who is a candidate for any elective public office or is a campaign volunteer for or employed or retained in any capacity by any candidate or political party shall be deemed resigned, if so required by their employer, or shall take a leave of absence from his/her work as such during the campaign period."

TALENTS ARE NOT EMPLOYEES. ABS-CBN pointed out, however, that the Act is not supposed to restrict their stars when it comes to their activities on television. In a statement sent to PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal) via e-mail this afternoon, February 11, ABS-CBN stated that the law cited by the Comelec involves only the employees. Talents are not employees of the network, hence the ruling "does not apply to them."

Here's the Kapamilya network's statement in full:

"The call for ABS-CBN talents who endorse candidates to go on leave during the campaign period is not required by the Fair Election Act or its implementing rules and regulations. Section 36 of Comelec Resolution No.  8758 in relation to Section 1 (4) thereof and the Fair Election Act merely requires that media practitioners such as talents 'shall not use his/her time or space to favor any candidate.' In this regard, it is ABS-CBN's policy that its talents may not use any program to endorse or promote any candidate.  This policy is strictly enforced by the network.

"The provision of law cited by the PPCRV [Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting] and Comelec that requires media personalities to either resign or go on leave applies to employees only. Talents are not employees of the network and, therefore, the said provision does not apply to them."

GMA Network advises talents to go on leave if they continue endorsing candidates

Share

GMA Network has advised its talents who continue to endorse candidates in the May 10 elections to take a leave of absence for the entire stretch of the campaign period.

"GMA Network is advising its talents that they have to take a leave of absence if they continue to campaign for or endorse candidates or political parties during the campaign period, even if the taping of their participation in the promotion or plug of the candidate was done before the campaign period," the network statement read.

"GMA Network’s talents, who appeared in political ads or advocacy plugs before February 9, are advised to notify the candidates concerned or those responsible for placing these political plugs not to air them during the campaign period," it added.

The network issued the statement in response to a reminder from the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on the provision stated under Republic Act 9006 or the Fair Elections Act prohibiting actors from making anymore appearances once they endorse or volunteer for a candidate during the campaign period.

Under Section 6.6 of the said law, media practitioners and personalities are required to either resign or take a leave of absence if they continue to show their support for candidates through print and broadcast media.

Agua Bendita, a new fantasy series starring Andi Eigenmann, topped the primetime race last February 8 with a very impressive 37.7 percent pilot rating.

ABS-CBN's new fantaserye Agua Bendita seemed to be continuing the winning streak of May Bukas Pa in the primetime race. Agua Bendita, which took over the timeslot of May Bukas Pa, debuted last February 8 with a very impressive 37.7 percent to claim overall leadership. It also seemed that the Kapamilya network has found another gem in Andi Eigenmann, who is starring in her very first solo soap.

Aside from Agua Bendita, three new shows from GMA-7 also debuted last Monday—the early primetime series First Time, the afternoon soap Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak, and the early morning talent show Diz Iz It!.

First Time, which stars tween idols Barbie Forteza, Joshua Dionisio, and Jhake Vargas posted a rating of 18.7 percent on its pilot episode, just missing the Top 10 of the primetime race.

Gumapang Ka Sa Lusak, starring Dennis Trillo and Jennylyn Mercado, debuted at No. 6 in the daytime race by virtue of its 13.5 percent rating. Diz It It!, on the other hand, tied with ABS-CBN's Maria de Jesus: Anghel Sa Lansangan at No. 10 with 12.1 percent.

Wowowee topped the daytime race with 23.5 percent.

Here are the comparative ratings of ABS-CBN and GMA-7 programs last February 8 based on the overnight ratings of Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS) among National households.

Richard Gutierrez and PEP finally have Peace

Movie and television star Richard Gutierrez and editors of the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) website led by editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon reached an amicable settlement Tuesday, February 9, 2010, regarding the libel suit filed by the actor over an article that appeared in the PEP website on March 29, 2009.

The PEP article alleged that Gutierrez was involved "in a heated squabble with Michael Flores" during the birthday party of director Mark Reyes, an incident that turned out not to have happened and which story the website has since admitted to have been a mistake.

PEP Editors Jo-Ann Maglipon and Karen Pagsolingan and reporter Ferdinand Godinez have personally apologized to the complainant for the erroneous publication of the article. Gutierrez has accepted the apology, and the two parties have mutually agreed to amicably settle the libel case.

As part of the settlement, PEP issued this public apology:

"The Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) hereby reiterates that Mr. Richard Gutierrez was never involved in any "heated altercation" or "tutukan ng baril" with Michael Flores or with any other individual on 29 March 2009, during the party of Zorro director Mark Reyes, contrary to an article briefly uploaded on its website on the same day.
"PEP editor-in-chief Jo-Ann Maglipon, managing editor Karen Pagsolingan and staffwriter Bong Godinez acknowledge their error; repeat their assurance that they have no malicious agenda against Mr. Gutierrez; and apologize for the publication of the article and their failure to get his side of the story and for the hurt it has caused him and his family."
