Rachel Weisz is British. Valerie Bariou has French blood. But they share striking similarities.

Both have high cheekbones. Both have an elegance that makes you look not once, but twice. Both started as a model before turning to acting.

No wonder producers of “Bourne Legacy” chose Valerie as stand-in for Rachel in the ongoing shoot of the hit franchise in the Philippines.

“People said that we look alike,” Valerie's text message to Yahoo! Philippines OMG! reads. “The built, the skin tone, etc., are similar.”

This is why she auditioned as a stand-in for Rachel.

“We are not seen on cam. It’s similar to being a double. Basically, I stand for her for lighting and framing,” Valerie explains her work.

And since Rachel and the other stars need full concentration to get into their character, Valerie says that “we don’t want to disturb them as much as possible.”

The Hollywood stars, she observes, are very professional and time conscious. And it’s great to be part of the film.

“I get to see how they work – the Hollywood standards. We talk with the crew about their other experiences in their films like ‘300,’ ‘Titanic,’ ‘Avengers,’ ‘Spiderman,’ etc. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Valerie relates.

Husband Onemig Bondoc is happy for her.

He has thrown in his full support “as long as I always prioritize our family and I update him once in a while during the shoot, ” states Valerie.

The proud wife adds that Onemig guests on radio – via 738 khz AM at 7 a.m. twice a week.

Valerie's acting credits include a role in "The Red Shoes," where she plays Olivia (wife of Marvin's bestfriend). She was also the glam secretary in "I Love You Virus" with Jericho Rosales and Briana Evigan and "Skeika" in Chito Rono's film "Emir."

From the special Sunday San Diego episode's manly locale on the USS Midway aircraft carrier, to its soundtrack of the manly Top Gun theme "Danger Zone," to its increased amount of Steven Tyler swearing, to its first audition featuring a modern-day Vargas girl in a teensy-weensy red white & blue bikini, to its final audition by a manly mechanic named "Wolf" who covered CCR and Johnny Cash, it was obvious that "American Idol" producers were hoping to hook male viewers who'd stuck around after Sunday afternoon's NFL playoff game. And the tactic just might have worked.

Once again, this was an episode heavy on impressive singers, some of which may have roped in a few new fans. And among those impressive singers was one who probably had some longtime Fox viewers, male and female alike, feeling all nostalgic, as Jim Carrey's 24-year-old daughter, Jane Carrey, tried out in front of Jim's old "In Living Color" Fly Girl castmate, Jennifer Lopez. ("I was 2 when you were on TV together," Jane told J.Lo; Jennifer, surprisingly uninsulted, gave her a golden ticket anyway.) Wow, the daughter of the Truman Show star on an ACTUAL reality show? How very meta! And also, what great television.

Below is a full roundup of who sailed straight from the USS Midway to Hollywood...

Ashley Robles - This girl seemed to be ticking all the boxes here: single-mom back story (she works five jobs, including one as a DJ), a precocious 5-year-old daughter who dreams of being a Fly Girl and loves J.Lo's "On The Floor," a button-cute face and figure, and, most importantly, the ability to actually pull off an ambitious audition song like "I Will Always Love You." Steven told her, "You are gonna be big." I'm kind of surprised that Ashley isn't big already.

Jayrah Gibson - Jayrah is an R&B songwriter who was once told he should just stick to penning songs for others because he cannot sing himself. Of course, when Jayrah revealed this, I thought it was all a setup for a classic bad, William Hungian audition. (Oh, "Idol." Eleven seasons in, and you still keep on fooling me. Kudos.) As it turned out, whoever told Jayrah he couldn't sing clearly couldn't hear. Jayrah can sing, quite well, and judging by the snippet he warbled of an original ditty he wrote for J.Lo, "Shake Your Moneymaker," he's not a bad writer, either. Honestly, I liked his "Moneymaker" bit better than his "real" audition, of Musiq Soulchild's "Just Friends," but I enjoyed him all the way through, and as Randy Jackson pointed out, it has been WAY too long since a major R&B star came out of "Idol." It's time for that to change, and maybe Jayrah is the man who can make it happen.

Ali Shields - I can't decide if this geek girl will be tons of fun on the show, or if she'll just be so annoying that I'll be praying for her to get cut on day one of Hollywood Week. (Probably the latter.) Ali's done her goofball-shtick act on national television before: She wrote a song about ex-"Idol" judge Ellen DeGeneres that landed her a cameo on Ellen's talk show, and then Ellen dispatched Ali to be a reporter at the American Music Awards, where Ali used some dorky never-been-kissed sob story to coerce kisses out of sympathetic pop stars like Mike Poesner and Usher. By the time I finished watching Ali's bio reel featuring all of her "Ellen" and AMAs footage, I was already tired of her, and I expected she'd get a kissoff from the judges once she auditioned for "Idol," that she'd be a novelty act at best. I personally preferred her jokey rap of Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now" over her more serious rendition of Corinne Bailey Rae's "Like A Star" (although I found it a little offensive when Randy ordered her to "ghetto dance," and she stuck her booty out like a stripper), but for whatever reason, the judges liked her and put her through. My prediction now is she'll get eliminated early, then she'll be brought back as an "Idol" correspondent for the finale. I have a feeling that was Ali's real agenda from the start, anyway.

Aubree Dieckmyer - Here was one gorgeous girl sure to please male viewers...so gorgeous, in fact, that she kept accidentally saying she was trying out for "America's Next Top Model"! Oops. This made me instantly dislike her, and when she encouraged Steven's icky flirting, that also had me prematurely writing her off as a probable reject. I say "prematurely" because once Aubree started singing...she was great! Her "Feeling Good" audition was actually my favorite of the night; her voice had a truly lovely, fragile quality to it that got me feeling all gooey and goosepimply inside. So not so fast, Tyra Banks: Aubree may be pretty good at smizing at Steven, but if she keeps singing like this, she'll be on "Idol" for a while and won't be signing up for "ANTM" any time soon.

Kyle Crews - This 19-year-old UC Berkeley frat boy claimed to be a ladies' man, but honestly, I think David "Mister Steal-Your-Girl" Leathers Jr. from the Savannah auditions might have a better chance at being an "Idol" heartthrob, even if Kyle did cheesily dedicate Monica's "Angel Of Mine" to J.Lo and serenade her throughout. I just found Kyle to be Wonderbread-bland, and I was shocked--shocked!--when Steven told him he was the "best male voice we've heard so far." Kyle looked as shocked as I was, actually. Maybe all the loud background airplane noise marring the San Diego auditions rendered Steven temporarily deaf or something.

Jane Carrey - The aforementioned daughter of Jim, Jane talked wistfully about living in her famous father's shadow and how difficult it was for her to establish her own identity as a performer. At first I was slightly turned off by this; I mean, after seasons of single parents, widowers, orphans, illness and accident survivors, struggling artists living out of cars (or tents), etc., "My dad is an A-list millionaire actor" didn't seem like a very heartstring-tugging sob story. But then Jane sang, and all was forgiven. Her soulful cover of Bonnie Raitt's "Something To Talk About" showed raw promise, and when she called her dad after she got her golden ticket and he sounded so elated and supportive, it warmed my heart. I was dumb and dumber to doubt this girl. (Heh.)

Prior to accepting TV5's offer to headline the network's newest soap opera, American Idol alumnus and season seven runner-up David Archuleta had visited the Philippines three times.

These visits were very brief, less than 24 hours each, only enough to do concerts, or to promote his albums.


But those short stays were more than enough for the young singer to experience what the country offers.

He readily admits that, from these visits, it's really more fun in the Philippines.


In an interview by PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last week, David did not hesitate to relate the reasons why he thinks the Philippines is more fun.

For one, he says, the fans are warmer here than anywhere else.


"I feel very comfortable with just the people," says the 21-year-old
matinee idol. "I feel that fans are very warm here. That's why I feel
that it would be a comfortable experience here."



He adds, "For me, the number one thing about any place is people.
That's what interests me, and what I remember the most anywhere I go.

"Especially here, I feel comfortable here, the people here are very
friendly, and they're very supportive as well.



"I could safely say that I always have a blast when I come to the
Philippines, so it's always fun to me when I come to the Philippines."



Asked to name Filipino things that excite him whenever he's in the country, David was quick to mention the food, the tourist spots, and the unforgettable experiences.


The food that David pleasantly remembers and has tasted in his past visits are tokwa't baboy, sisig, and papaitan.



"They're all good," he says with delight.



During his short stint, this time, in the country, David hopes to visit the best tourist spots, but he's concerned that he just won't have the time.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt fully dressed their part as a glamorous Hollywood power couple at Sunday night's Golden Globe Awards: She in a body-hugging white strapless gown with a flash of red at the bustline by Atelier Versace that matched perfectly her lips and handbag, and he in a classic, bow-tie tuxedo by Salvatore Ferragamo.

Individually, they oozed old-school, movie-star looks, but together, they were the buzz of the red carpet at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., setting a high bar for style.
"There is mystery there. We know so much about everybody else that this couple is so exciting, and you love to see them," said stylist Mary Alice Stephenson. "They are so elegant ... and she's immaculate head to toe. She's so beautiful and icy, you love to watch her and you can't take your eyes off her."
Jolie led the march of stylish, seasoned veterans, who are mothers, moguls and — on nights like these — the best models around.

Stephenson called out Elle Macpherson in a strapless, tiered Zac Posen gown in ivory, Kate Beckinsale in a blush-colored beaded Roberto Cavalli, Reese Witherspoon in a red, corsetlike Posen, Nicole Kidman in a studded Versace and Salma Hayek in a bold, metallic Gucci.
Charlize Theron wore a dusty-rose colored gown by Christian Dior Couture with a plunging neckline, high slit and big bow on the waist, and Heidi Klum was in a plunging-back, blush-tone gown by Francisco Costa for Calvin Klein. She accented her look with a huge turquoise necklace.
"It's good for real women to see women who have a little age and maybe motherhood who can get their glam on in a very sexy way," Stephenson said.

Hal Rubenstein, fashion director for InStyle, noted the prevailing sophistication and elegance. "It's a very pretty night," he said. "Everybody wanted to look pretty and grown up. There wasn't a slashed skirt. There was an understanding that fashion isn't about being outrageous."
Among his favorites were Julianna Margulies in a purple caviar-beaded gown by Naeem Khan that showed off an open back.

Khan is one of Michelle Obama's go-to designers for formal occasions, and with open back and long sleeves from the designer's spring collection at the Golden Globe Awards. One of her other favorites, Jason Wu, made the leap to the West Coast, dressing Michelle Williams in a blue velvet gown.
Williams' biggest style statement, however, was her diamond garland headband by Fred Leighton for Forevermark.

The blue gown that surely turned some heads was the Vera Wang worn by Sofia Vergara. It was the mermaid silhouette that's becoming her signature, but the knife-pleated bodice and swirling sheared bias flange skirt were a little more fashion forward than the styles she's worn before.
Vergara said she so often wears Wang because of her gowns' fit: "She's like a genius now with my body."

There were some new names making bold fashion statements at the Globes, reassuring the next generation of style watchers. Jessica Chastain was at the ceremony for the first time wearing a high-neck, pearl-covered Givenchy Haute Couture by Riccardo Tisci. The details, down to her thin gold belt and pearl-and-diamond earrings, were just right.
Mila Kunis wore a one-shouldered black Dior. Her makeup artist Tracey Levy said she looked a bit like Elizabeth Taylor, but even more like "a brunette Grace Kelly."
"She looked classic Hollywood, but youthful ... with an innocence but also a grown woman who is confident," said Levy, who stuck to peach and coral Dior shades.
Zooey Deschanel wore a unique Prada dark-green halter gown with black and emerald glass pearls on the bodice and ivory pearls at the neck, and Rooney Mara, in a deep V-neck black gown with a bare, harness-style bodice. "It's a Nina Ricci and it was the first one I tried on," Mara said. "It was very comfortable."

Rubenstein thought Mara is playing her cards right in introducing herself to a broader audience. "She's doing a very savvy bridge between personal style and the character she plays in 'Dragon Tattoo.'"
First-timer Octavia Spencer wore a lavender, draped gown by Tadashi with a V neck and jeweled details. "We wanted to create something Grecian that highlighted her curves and vibrant personality," said Shoji in a statement.

Rubenstein noted how many women went the purple route, including Emma Stone in Lanvin, Jessica Alba in Gucci and Shailene Woodley in an embroidered illusion column dress by Marchesa.
Lea Michele wore one of the beaded, under-the-sea fantasy frocks from Marchesa's spring runway.
Madonna, whose style has been all over the map in her long career, went back to her rock 'n' roll roots for this event wearing a dark green embroidered gown with cap sleeves by Reem Acra and a diamond-and-pearl cross by Neil Lane.

Russell Brand is ready to be uplifted.
On Sunday, the British comic was back to work, and back on U.S. soil, to promote Strangely Uplifting, his new FX series, at a TCA panel in Pasadena, Calif.


s the Q&A session began, a reporter made a vague reference to Brand's headline-making Dec. 30 split from wife Katy Perry, asking Brand, 36, how he was doing.
"I'm quite well, thank you. Are you asking because of recent events?" he chuckled. "Well, I suppose what you're doing is you're making the mistake as seeing time as linear."


His goal for the still-developing series, Brand said, is fairly simple. "All I want is for people to feel better than they do now. That's all I want," he mused. "All I want is to make people laugh and to make people happy. And as long as I stay in alignment with that, then I'm served by great forces."
Will the series delve into his talked-about personal life? "I think there will be inevitable biographical elements because you can't speak from anyone's perspective but your own," he said. "Unless I was to bizarrely adapt some sort of avatar."

Brand conceded that he's frequently misunderstood in the press. But, to correct that, he told reporters, "I listen to others. I accept that you must be humble. It's very important to have humility. . . I have a tendency to fly off. I'm tangential and also I'm narcissistic. I have to be very careful."
His estranged wife Perry, meanwhile, wasn't too far away from Pasadena on Sunday night -- but the "Firework" singer, 26, avoided the glitz and celeb crush of Golden Globes parties.

Even Angelina Jolie has her doubts.

During a live video web chat with Marie Claire Thursday, the 36-year-old revealed that she had a "complete meltdown" before production began on her directorial debut, In the Land of Blood and Honey.


"I had a complete emotional breakdown in the shower and Brad [Pitt] found me crying," Jolie revealed. "I felt this huge responsibility and I felt very small. 'Who am I to take this on?'"

The mother of six and UN Goodwill Ambassador admitted she's still somewhat uncomfortable with her sudden career change. "I didn't plan to become a director, and I still have trouble saying I'm a director," Jolie explained.

"I just wanted to tell this story and I ended up by default being the director," the Oscar winner said. "It was a pleasure, but I wonder if it would be a pleasure with another cast and crew, and a subject matter that wasn't so special."


Jolie's film, In the Land of Blood and Honey, is nominated for a Golden Globe. She and Pitt, 48, are scheduled to attend the ceremony together on Sunday.

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - "Harry Potter" cast a spell at the People's Choice awards on Wednesday on a night that also saw big wins for singer Katy Perry at the start of the Hollywood awards season.
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" -- the last installment of the hit movie franchise about the British boy wizard -- won four awards, including best movie and favorite ensemble cast.

Perry won five trophies, including best female music artist, favorite song for "E.T." and favorite tour headliner. But the perky "Firework" pop star pulled out of Wednesday's live TV ceremony at short notice, following her split with British comedian Russell Brand two weeks ago after 14 months of marriage.
The People's Choice is the earliest of Hollywood's glittering annual awards shows. But unlike the Oscars or the Golden Globes, the People's Choice winners are determined by fans and provide few insights to the likely winners of the movie industry's highest honors in February.

The "Harry Potter" stars did not make the trip from Britain to the awards show in Los Angeles so none of their wins were announced on the two-hour televised ceremony.
Female romp "Bridesmaids" won best comedy movie and Johnny Depp picked up the best actor award.
Emma Stone, 23, took the trophies for both movie actress and favorite comedy actress for her roles in civil rights era film "The Help" and "Crazy, Stupid, Love."
"I moved to LA eight years ago this week with my mom and it is so insane to be standing up here right now," Stone told the audience.

Khloe Kardashian — notorious for speaking her mind — isn't holding back when it comes to her late father Robert Kardashian's other wives and their claims that she isn't really a Kardashian.

Jan Ashley, the woman who married Robert Kardashian after he split from Kris Jenner, recently told Star Magazine that Khloe was not Robert's biological daughter.

"Khloe is not his kid -- he told me that after we got married," said Ashley, 63. "He just kind of looked at me and said [it] like it was a matter of fact. He said, 'Well, you know that Khloe's not really a Kardashian, don't you?' And I said...'OK,' and that was it."

Ellen Kardashian, 63, who was married to Robert at the time of his death in 2003, backed up Ashley's claims. "Khloe brought it up all the time," she says. "She looked nothing like the rest. She was tall, had a different shape, light hair, curly hair. Didn't look anything like the other
three children."

Khloe fired back at the women on Twitter Wednesday, writing, "The audacity you have to mention my father's name like this! Should be ashamed of urself! I let a lot of things slide but this one is really low. YOU ARE DISGUSTING! (yes you know who YOU are)."

According to a report by ANC, Rachel Weisz landed on Philippine soil evening of Jan. 8 from Hong Kong via Cathay Pacific Airlines flight CX 903.
The Academy Award-winning British actress is here for the filming of “Bourne Legacy,” the fourth installment to the “Bourne” novels-turned-movie franchise, which is set to begin next week.
Rachel will star opposite Jeremy Renner (Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, The Avengers) who is also expected to arrive in Manila soon!

According to MMDA Chairman Francis Tolentino, “Bourne Legacy” will be shot in Intramuros, Navotas Fishport, Marikina City Market, San Andres Market, Ramon Magsaysay Boulevard, Ayala Avenue, Nagtahan, Pasay Taft, Jones Bridge and in El Nido, Palawan.

“The Bourne Legacy” also stars Edward Norton (Primal Fear), and under the direction of Michael Clayton based from the best-selling novel by Tony Gilroy to be distributed by UIP-Solar in the Philippines.

Whether or not you've ever had a baby, you're probably aware that the actual process of giving birth isn't exactly a walk in the park. But if you're superstar Beyonce, you can certainly do your best to make sure you're surrounded by luxury, privacy, and special treatment.


The pop singer and her husband, hip-hop mogul Jay-Z, 42, pulled out all the stops to make sure they welcomed new baby girl Blue Ivy (who arrived on Saturday via C-section) in style. The couple reportedly shelled out a whopping $1.3 million to take over a swanky, newly renovated suite (and according to some reports, an entire floor) at Manhattan's Lenox Hill Hospital on the Upper East Side.
When Beyonce checked in -- under the pseudonym Ingrid Jackson -- her demands were definitely diva-ish. Hospital staffers were forced to turn over their cell phones (to avoid any unauthorized picture snapping) and instructed to cover the lenses of the floor's security cameras with tape.

And the "If I Were a Boy" songstress didn't just turn to hubby Jay-Z for support while in labor. She also enlisted an entire security team to stand guard during her stay. Sure, it makes sense that they wanted to ensure that Bey and her baby didn't get swarmed by the paparazzi or an unscrupulous peeping Tom, but the new mom seemed to forget that she wasn't the only one at the hospital with a bundle of joy to gush over. Among other parents irked at how they were treated, a Brooklyn man named Neil Coulon is still reeling from his run-ins with Beyonce and Jay-Z's muscle men while attempting to check on his premature twins inside Lenox Hill's neonatal intensive care unit.

"Three times they stopped me from entering or exiting the NICU and it happened once on Friday [the day Beyonce actually checked in] just because they wanted to use the hallway," the frustrated dad told the New York Daily News. "They should have been more strategic about it. These are children with problems in intensive care and you're just going to take over the hospital like you own it? All I want is an apology."

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The fright film "The Devil Inside" scared up a monstrous $34.5 million opening weekend to help Hollywood exorcise its recent box-office demons, according to studio estimates Sunday.

The surprise hit from Paramount Pictures debuted well above industry expectations as horror fans crowded theaters for the low-budget tale about exorcists trying to free a woman possessed by evil spirits.

Between "The Devil Inside" and solid results for holdover films, Hollywood's business soared over the first full weekend of 2012 after a sluggish holiday season that ended a ho-hum year at the box office.
Overall domestic revenues totaled $144 million, up 29 percent from the same weekend last year, when "True Grit" led with $14.6 million, according to box-office tracker Hollywood.com.
Paramount already is well into profit with "The Devil Inside," an independently produced movie that the studio bought for $1 million. It's the latest such low-budgeted horror acquisition for the studio, which bought "Paranormal Activity" cheaply and turned it into a $100 million sensation that was followed by two hit sequels.

Like "Paranormal Activity" and another Paramount hit released in January, "Cloverfield," ''The Devil Inside" is a fictional tale shot in a mock documentary style.
According to Paramount, 59 percent of viewers for "The Devil Inside" were under 25 and 85 percent were under 35, prime viewers for Hollywood who had not turned up in their usual numbers for much of last year.

With a sales campaign that bypassed traditional newspaper and TV advertising in favor of online teasers and cryptic marketing, Paramount managed to intrigue young adults who have not been all that interested in the rush of family films and Academy Awards contenders that crowded into theaters over the holidays.
"The Devil Inside" was the only new wide release of the weekend after the holiday crush, historically a good time for something different to sneak in and become an unexpected hit, said Don Harris, head of distribution for Paramount.
"For that under-25, under-35 audience that's looking for something else, that first weekend in January has always been a great weekend to release a movie," Harris said. "When we saw that weekend open, we took it."

"The Devil Inside" bumped another Paramount hit, Tom Cruise's "Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol," out of the top spot after two weekends at No. 1. "Ghost Protocol" slipped to No. 2 with $20.5 million, raising its domestic total to $170.2 million.
Just a day before "The Devil Inside" opened Friday, industry analysts had expected "Ghost Protocol" would remain No. 1 this weekend. The most optimistic forecasters figured "The Devil Inside" might manage $15 million, less than half the business it actually did.

"This one caught everyone looking, but the devil got his due," Hollywood.com analyst Paul Dergarabedian said. "It's just very difficult to track the horror fan base, no question about it."
"The Devil Inside" is following the pattern of many horror movies, which pack in crowds on opening day then tumble quickly after that. With $16.85 million on Friday, "The Devil Inside" did nearly half of its business in the first day, with revenues falling to $11.75 million Saturday and an estimated $5.9 million Sunday.

Brad Pitt has been sporting a new accessory in recent days - a cane - due to an injury to his ACL (a ligament in the knee).
Seeing the sexy star with a walking stick has baffled fans, but the mystery has now been solved.

The "Moneyball" star revealed he suffered the injury in order to protect his daughter during an accidental fall.
"I was carrying my daughter [Vivienne] down the hill and I slipped," Brad, 48, explained to reporters at the 23rd International Palm Springs Film Festival in Palm Springs, Calif., on Saturday. "It was either her or me."

Brad's longtime love, Angelina Jolie, said she doesn't mind Brad's new adornment.
"I like the cane," she told reporters, adding that the injury hasn't slowed Brad down. "He's not that kind of guy. He does everything still."
Thanks to dad Brad's valiant actions, Angelina said their 3-year-old daughter did not sustain any injuries.

"Vivie's okay," Angelina said. "She was absolutely fine."
Angie also revealed that she too has sustained an injury for the sake of her offspring.

"I think all parents get injured in the line of fire. When Maddox was young, I fell and hurt my elbow," she said. "It's a pretty common occurrence.

Teen girls are breathing a sigh of relief: Taylor Lautner is not coming out of the closet.

A fake People magazine cover featuring Lautner claims that he is "Out & Proud" exploded across the web Monday night.

"Tired of rumors, the 'Twilight' star opens up about his decision to finally come out," reads a blurb on the phony cover. " 'I'm more liberated, and happier than I've ever been."

The image immediately went viral. Some -- including hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons -- believed it was real.

In mid-October, GQ Australia apologized to Lautner after a reporter asked him in an interview whether "Milk" director Gus Van Sant and writer Dustin Lance Black hit on Lautner during a meeting.

"No, definitely not," Lautner said of the openly gay director and writer. "I think they know I'm straight. But they're great guys. They're a lot of fun."

"The point we were actually trying to push was that Taylor is irresistible to virtually everyone -- regardless of sexuality or gender," GQ Australia said in a later statement. "Hence the film crew cheering at his shirtless scenes while shooting 'Twilight,' and Mark Wahlberg deeming him better looking than Leonardo DiCaprio."

When the first Shrek hit the silver screen in 2001, it wowed audiences with its fairy-tale storyline, its witty pop culture asides, and its impressive cast of voice actors: Mike Myers played the titular ogre; with Cameron Diaz as Fiona, his love interest; and Eddie Murphy as his wise-cracking donkey sidekick. In the two subsequent Shrek movies, other actors came on board to lend their talent and star power to the franchise -- Antonio Banderas, Justin Timberlake, even Larry King.

And for the latest and last movie in the franchise -- "Shrek Forever After" -- Myers and the gang returns along with new A-list talent, like Megan Fox who plays "The Princess in the Tower." But for the movie's chief bad guy, the silken-tongued Rumpelstiltskin, Dreamworks hired the voice talent of Walt Dohrn.

Who?

Unlike much of rest of the cast, Dohrn doesn't regularly walk the red carpet or make appearances on Letterman. Instead, he's a writer and animator who started out working on "SpongeBob SquarePants" before landing a gig on "Shrek 2." Since then, he worked his way up to Story Editor for this movie. So how did a guy with a below-the-line job land an above-the-line part? We tracked him down and found out.

"It just stuck," he told me.

During the very beginning of production, Dohrn and his colleagues would hash out the characters and plot with storyboards, mouthing out all the voices. Later, he recorded the dialogue of many characters, from Puss-in-Boots to Fiona, as a part of a scratch track for the animators to animate to. Everyone loved the way Dohrn brought Rumpelstiltskin to life.

"The whole time, we thought we're going to find an actor for the part," he said. He didn't know that he would be the actual, official voice of the movie's villain until Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffery Katzenberg made the decision. By that point, Dohrn had already played the part, in various capacities, for over a year.

He said that he initially found working opposite the likes of Mike Myers daunting but those worries were soon assuaged. "He was great. He's a filmmaker himself so he knows what it's like to make a movie. And he's been doing the part so long that really knows the inside of Shrek's head."

The animator-turned actor also revealed how he got into the part. "My character shouts a lot. So before going into the booth, I would drink, like, 20 cups of coffee and get good and yelly."

So would this gig tempt him into the Hollywood fame machine? "It was sort of a joke around the office that I would go on to pursue my acting career, like appearing on 'Law & Order' or something." In the meantime, he seems plenty happy finishing up the movie in time for its May 21 release date.
