Una, bilang programming executive, "There would be specific programs assigned to me by the programming committee, and I will be overseeing the development of the production and the talents as well," pahayag ni Paolo nang makausap siya ng PEP (Philippine Entertainment Portal).

"As a Network Executive naman," patuloy niya, "it involves—not just sa public affairs but in entertainment as well—training, yung pagpili ng mga talents, and giving them tips or whatever, kung anong puwedeng gawin. Whatever expertise that I have acquired in the 12 years that I have been in the industry, in terms of the various formats—reality, game show, talk show, news magazine show, beauty pageants and whatnot—these are things that I will be putting into that one big basket and they can just pick from it, basically.

"So, now, it's a good position. Because now, nakakatulong tayo sa mga kasama natin sa industriya who have talents, who deserve a shot, whether it's a new shot, a second shot, a third shot, it doesn't matter."

LOOKING FOR THAT DIAMOND IN THE ROUGH.

At the end of the day naman, siyempre, if I'm gonna vouch for someone, I have to know their work ethic, e. So, hindi lahat ng lumalapit, matutulungan natin. Hindi naman tayo tipong public service, e. At the end of the day, it's still a business. At ayoko namang mapahiya na ang taong sinu-support ko, o I'm vouching for, cannot deliver. Kasi it will reflect on my judgment."

"You don't wanna get someone too polished. You wanna get someone who's basically a 'diamond in the rough' that you can train, that you can instill the right values into. Kung makikita po ninyo the way that we've been moving sa TV5, is that we either get pillars or we will develop our own talents.

"The ones in between, minsan medyo mahirap nang ayusin yung tamang pag-iisip. So, we'd rather start with someone we can train from the very beginning or someone na haligi na talaga at puwede naming sandalan bilang poste sa iba't ibang mga programa namin," ani Paolo.

PAOLO THE NEWS ANCHOR.

"If I could list my priorities now, number one for TV5 would be head anchor of the daily newscast, pangalawa na lang ang pagiging network executive," sabi ni Paolo.

"Malabo kasi, e. Lalo na GMA, there is no way that is gonna happen. Andami nang nakapila... Wala, wala talagang posibilidad na mangyari yun. Nung in-offer sa akin ng TV5 yung role to be a news anchor, to have a news and public affairs show, and to have some entertainment shows, and to be a network executive as well and all that, it was just, I guess what I need, e. Something new, something fresh. Na hindi ko pa nagagawa. Pero alam ko, sa dedication ko at sa passion ko sa trabaho, I will learn that, e. So, I've been taking a crash course from Ma'am Luchi [Cruz-Valdes, TV5 head of News and Public Affairs] on what it means to be a journalist na tunay, ha. Hindi yung nagdyo-journalist-journalist ka lang. Hindi. I'm gonna have to learn how to write, produce...which I've been doing naman before."

USI (UNDER SPECIAL INVESTIGATION).

We will do what other investigative show hosts will not do. Since nakilala na rin naman ako sa mga challenges o yung reality challenge persona ko, we put that element on the show. Doon na 'ko nakilala, e. We put our guests through challenges," saad ni Paolo.

"I challenged Senator Dick Gordon to take my blood pressure and take my blood sample since he is the head of the Philippine Red Cross. Straight forward din at prangkahan yung interview namin, like for example yung pagtanong ko sa kanya na pikon nga ba siya. Si Councilor delos Reyes naman, na never pang nakapasok sa nightclubs, we challenged him to go to a nightclub and campaign there."

Jamby Madrigal] we challenged her to pick up trash. We have also scheduled Gibo [former Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro] to a paintball challenge. Through those challenges, mailalabas namin yung different sides of the candidates, yung real side nila. We don't want just a one-on-one interview. I want more of the action, e. And that's how we are going to be different."

"This is a lot of fun for me. This is the kind of format that will evolve, e. Under Special Investigation could be a person, could be an issue. Could be anything."

ON NEW SURVIVOR PHILIPPINES HOST.

"Sana the standards that we've been able to establish in the first and second year, sana ma-maintain o malampasan pa. It's a show that I love doing. I definitely miss it," pahayag niya.

"I think there are enough people out there in the team that did the the first and second season of Survivor na puwedeng bigyan siya ng advice. Because the last thing that I want to do is to give unsolicited advice. And I'm out of the group, basically. Sana lang they maintain the standard or mahigitan nila. Because it's a tough show to do. And I will miss doing that show."

FREEDOM AND GROWTH. Since nami-miss niya nga ang pagho-host ng show na tulad ng Survivor, at nakilala naman talaga siya nang husto bilang reality show host, meron ba silang niluluto na katulad na show sa TV5?

"Well, since reality is my forte, in fact that's where my heart has been for the longest time for several years, definitely the show that  I will be doing apart fromUSI and main newscast will be a reality-based show na mas may lalim. Kumbaga, if you take Survivor, you're gonna have an analysis pa.

Napakasaya. Anak mo siya, kapatid mo siya, pinsan mo siya [the program]. That's where my passion lies. In developing a show. In every single show that I am doing for TV5 right now, nandun yun, e.

"I used to do that thing in my shows in GMA before, except my designation there was host. Here [in TV5] it legitimizes everything that I'm doing. And it's such a great honor that people respect my opinion in this network. It's such a great honor that people take action when an opinion is given. But at the same time, it's great to work with people na may sariling utak din. Discussion uli. So discussions upon discussions. Paulit-ulit 'yan. And it's great. We've had conflicts already, but that's what makes you grow."

"I don't wanna jump and say na, 'mas masaya 'ko rito!' No, no, no. All I can say is that the potential for growth is so much more here. To be able to do the things na never ko pang nagawa o never ko pang inasam na gagawin, gagawin ko, e. So that is how exciting things are for me. So more than happy, I'm extremely excited. And it's been a while since I've been this excited," pagtatapos ni Paolo.
